Primary schools – summary of responses

Schools Engagement: Parkdale Primary School – 337 children

Valeria liaised with Parkdale school staff to set up the class surveys and Alison collated the data.

Notable comments

Reception:

We like the tennis court.

We like the basketball hoops.

The park looks old.

Would like water area.

Teacher – As an adult, I played 20 years ago there and the main equipment is the same.

 

Yr 1:

I go there all the time; it’s near my house.

I meet my cousins there.

 

Yr 2 & 3:

Children get to play longer if parents can sit.

Climbing wall and frames incorporated.

Assault course includes requests for trim trail; low ropes; balance beams etc overlap with gym.

Ropes teepee climbing frame.

Rounders incorporated with cricket.

Double swing so junior and baby can swing together with younger siblings.

Separate dogs.

 

Yr 4:

Helicopter swing!!

Bulldog dodgeball on green.

Please keep the tennis court!

 

Yr 5:

Mentioned spinning seesaw.

Lots of children nervous about the dogs on the park. Some not on leads.

Maple didn’t specifically tick individual swings etc, so not added on chart.

 

Yr 6

Everyone loves the orange roundabout keep it!

Maze suggested.

This is our closest park; good football pitch; meet friends; best park; not overcrowded

Wheelchair swings.

Feels like it’s all aimed at younger children.

Climbing pyramid; older children’s equipment, gym equipment.

Helicopter swing.

Refresh tennis courts.

80% of yr 6 use park regularly.

Foundation 1

Supports mental health/ break from home with baby/toddler

Meeting friends / Picnics / Family days / Safe socialising

Visit at weekends and holidays

‘It’s big, we can walk to it’

Foundation 2

‘Onchan Park is very close to our hearts, we have had lots of memories there, school trips and nature walks there. 50% of our children visit after school.
