Funding Project Consultation (Feb 2026)

Important news – Deadline 18th Feb 2026:

Our project to resurface the greenspace has been shortlisted for funding from Gedling Borough Council (GBC) from the pot of money created by new building projects in the area. This is called the “Community Infrastructure Levy” or CIL and the project will only get funding if we show our community support in the GBC consultation.

Please take a bit of time to read the proposal and respond on the form- there are only two questions to answer – to show your support. The community has supported our projects every step of the way and this should be the last step towards seeing great improvements in the green space at the north end of the park. We hope to completely renovate the surface and set in hard wearing grass that will withstand sports teams and community events throughout the year.

The Old Bowling green is unusable as a green space due to years of neglect. The sandy foundation is now pitted with fox holes
and dips making the surface dangerous for any user. We would like to completely resurface the green with a usable grass space including hardwearing grasses on a bed of topsoil that isn’t easy for animals to dig holes in. This will withstand play from team games including football rounders etc. and provide a usable green space for the whole community.

The deadline for completing the form in the consultation is 18th Feb 2026. The responses will be considered by the CIL officer at GBC and a recommendation will be made to the cabinet meeting in the Spring. If successful, the monies will be allocated in the next financial year.

We are hoping that this, along with funding from FCC for the play equipment and the Greater Carlton Neighbourhood Board fund for improvements to the paths and access, will all work together to see improvements through the whole park, marking the culmination of eight years of fundraising to improve the park.

UPDATE 6/3/26 – The outcome of the consultation will be discussed at future GBC cabinet meetings in March and April. See GBC council website for more information – https://democracy.gedling.gov.uk/ieListMeetings.aspx?CommitteeId=127
