Friends of Onchan Park are applying to FCC Community Action Fund with Gedling Borough Council for funds to replace the playground equipment and CIL – Community Infrastructure Levy – for funds to resurface and re-turf the old bowling green. We hope this injection of cash will rejuvenate Onchan Park and build on the work we did in 2020 to develop the Multi-use Games Area and table tennis area. New playground equipment was last installed in the 1990s and while there have been some running repairs over the years, it has definitely gone downhill in recent years.
The old bowling green is currently uneven and has very poor grass. Funding could be used to re-surface the green to create a large space for ball sports and informal games. This would involve adding a large quantity of topsoil and re-seeding with a hard-wearing rye grass. The accessibility of the top area of Onchan Park will also be improved with a new path and access gate.
The survey will remain open until the funding bids deadline later this year, so please complete it whenever you can to show your support for the projects. There will be paper copies available at The Kensington pub in the coming weeks, so pop in and fill out the survey on paper if you would prefer. There will also be a survey event at the park on Monday 26th May 10:30 am – 3 pm, so come along and give us your feedback in person.
The survey was open from May 2025 to October 2025 and gathered 259 responses. The questions were as follows:
